Gretchen McGinnis

Gretchen McGinnis is a 1987 graduate of the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, but has only recently come to truly love and understand painting and it's joyous process. She paints in both watercolor and oils. Her subject matter is always observed, including figures, landscape and still life of favorite objects - flowers, etc. She often employs the alla prima technique when painting with oils which involves painting in one sitting. It is a very direct and instinctive way to paint as each brushstroke matters. Gretchen finds this technique well suited for her, enabling Gretchen to feel very connected to what she paints;  reacting with her own feelings and remaining in a very high level of concentration - which for Gretchen is exhilarating, freeing, and meditative at once.
