Juan Hinojosa

Juan Hinojosa finds inspiration from glamour of fashion magazines, television, and lifestyle associated with New York City, but questions our own desires to be part of this glamour.  Re-imagining found images an objects has changed the way Juan looks at trash and the discarded items he finds on the streets of New York.  He collects magazines, advertisements, postcards and toys to arrange and play with them as a painter might arrange color with paint.  Juan uses these random items to create symmetrical collages on paper and canvas;  none of these found items are ever duplicated or altered.

Juan has held residences at the Vermont Studio Center (Johnson, VT) and Materials for the Arts (Queens, NY).  Recent exhibitions include Recycle 2017 at the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition (New York, NY), ARENA at Wrap Around 12 (New York, NY) and Back to Black, at South Projects (New York, NY).

He received his BFA at Parsons School of Design.  Juan Hinojosa lives and works in Queens, NY.
