YELLOW FINE ARTS
Brian Oh
My line drawing method is spontaneous but there is intention. A line that I begin to draw on the page is a response to the line I drew right before. So ultimately, it’s a practice of mediation, rooted in the moment. Once I find a form from the placed lines, I can adapt that into a bigger story in the entire canvas or paper.
I have always been interested in observing the spaces between buildings - there is something fascinating about them and the void they create, wide or narrow. In my cityscapes series, I begin with the intent of drawing lines around the empty spaces. I then work in lines inspired by architectural elements. The result of the final forms is organic and unexpected.
