Michael Reichman

Michael Reichman (b. 1957) is a self taught painter who grew up in the inner city of New York in a home clouded by addiction and mental illness.  He spent thirty four years battling drug and alcohol abuse as well as depression, ADD and OCD.  Reichman entered into a recovery treatment program in Minnesota in May 2003 and after many years of AA/NA meetings and counseling has remained sober since then.  His love of art was limited to his personal collection of paintings until one day he was given a gift-a beginner’s watercolor paint set and “A Dummies Guide to Watercolor Painting”.  With absolutely no training Reichman painted his first piece of artwork entitled “My Life”.  It was so well received that he continued to paint and broadened his medium to acrylic on canvas and wood.   Reichman now has an extensive collection (mostly vivid/vibrant abstract works) and most of his struggles and successes are quite evident in his body of work.

Reichman has most recently shown his work at the Roxbury Art Group and The Andes Academy of Art in the Catskill Mountains of NY where he now resides.
